It’s easy to think of Jesus as one who is disappointed in us because we never measure up to his perfect lifestyle. Or of Jesus as a cartoonish figure who looks good as an action hero doll but has no idea of the day-to-day trials we currently face. Sadly, we fix our eyes on those incorrect images of Christ rather than what’s true. Jesus is an action hero, but not one made of plastic.
Rather, he was flesh and blood who came to the earth on the world’s greatest rescue mission-freeing us from the prison of sin. When we truly understand what Jesus did, we will live a life of thankfulness and be more inclined to view others in the same way Jesus does.
So join us for games, pizza, hang-out, and a great discussion and bible study!

8th Grade Confirmation’s topic will be different.
In these four sessions, we will share our trials and struggles we face in our search for happiness. Sean McDonnell will offer us Biblical insight into the fleeting nature of happiness and the true meaning of joy.
Sessions: Searching for happiness… in relationships, in accomplishments, in appearances, and despite circumstances.
This will be a great series to kick-off the New Year! Bring some friends and get ready for some fun games, time to hang out with friends, and a great Bible study!
High Schoolers! IGNITE will be different on OCT 21st as we will be heading over to Ecclesia Church for a great concert: Justin McRoberts. He has been my favorite artist for the last 10 years… he’s an incredible acoustic guitarist and sing/songwriter. He’s also hilarious!
The cost is $12. If you can’t afford it, talk to me.
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS:
1) Meet at Trinity USC at 6:30pm to carpool by 6:45pm.
2) Meet at Ecclesia Church at 7:00pm (2115 Taft St
Houston, TX 77006-2115)
It’s just two guys, guitar and a piano, lots of interaction and conversation with the audience. Their concerts are different every night, but always fun.
The music they play is very different from any music around today. It’s kind of like the Ramones on acoustic instruments, and ballads like James Taylor or Simon and Garfunkel. It’s one of the more unique sounds you’ll hear. The lyrics to their songs will make you think, inspire you, and sometimes make you laugh or cry. Rich Mullins once wrote about these guys, “…they remind us that the music of faith is fun.”
TICKET PRICE: $10 online, $12 at the door. Children 5 and younger are free. (Students, let me know if you can’t afford it).
During the summer of 2010, high school students are invited to journey to New Orleans, Louisiana, for an experience of a lifetime.
And I believe that being at the 2010 National LCMS Youth Gathering is a part of God’s plan for your life. When you gather with thousands of other people just like yourself, you will hear and appreciate God’s call to be His people and the challenge to live out your faith in the world. Through Bible study, worship, and service, you will better understand what Christ did for us in calling us out of the darkness and into the light. And there will be plenty of time for fellowship with friends cruising a Swamp Tour, lounging at the hotel pool, attending Christian concerts…and so much more!
Think about being part of this journey. And as you think, I’m praying that God blesses you beyond what you expect this year!
Many of you are probably wondering about fundraisers for next summer’s events. We are currently waiting to gain approval from Trinity’s EMT so that the church as a whole can be behind us in this process and make sure we earn the money we need. If you have questions please contact Jason Phelps at 713-229-2935 or jphelps@trinitydt.org.
Confirmation is a specialized ministry program that seeks to help 8th grade students own their faith as they transition away from believing in Christ simply because their parents believe, dig into why Lutherans interpret Scripture the way we do, identify with the overall life and mission of Trinity and the Body of Christ, and provide them with a foundation for a deeper spiritual life.

All I can say is, “Wow!” This year’s houseboat trip to Calfornia with Sonshine Ministries was simply phenominal. Students experienced Jesus in a whole new way and lives were changed; including mine. It was a week of relaxation, worship, friendships being made, growing in relationship with God, wakeboarding, and riding the banana-boats. This is a trip we WILL be doing again. – Jason
